भव स्व दार निरतः स्व कुलम् रक्ष राक्षस ।
मानम् वृद्धिम् च राज्यम् च जीवितम् च इष्टम् आत्मनः ॥ ॥३-३८-३१॥
Bhava sva dāra nirataḥ sva kulam rakṣa rākṣasa । Mānam vṛddhim ca rājyam ca jīvitam ca iṣṭam ātmanaḥ ॥ ॥3-38-31॥
Translation
Be devoted to your own wives, O Rakshasa. Protect your lineage, your honor, prosperity, kingdom, and your own cherished life.

हे राक्षस! अपनी ही पत्नियों में अनुरक्त रहो। यदि तुम्हें अपना मान, उन्नति, राज्य और अपना प्रिय जीवन प्यारा है, तो अपने कुल की रक्षा करो।
English Commentary
This verse encapsulates the ideal advice regarding boundaries and self-preservation. Maricha connects personal morality (svadaraniratah - being devoted to one's own wife) directly to political and existential survival. He lists the stakes clearly: lineage, honor, prosperity, kingdom, and life itself. The implication is that these vital aspects of existence are inextricably linked to the king's moral conduct. By violating the sanctity of marriage, Ravana jeopardizes not just his soul, but the physical safety of his dynasty and state.
