प्रत्युवाच महाभागम् विश्वामित्रम् महामुनिम् ।
ऊन द्वादश वर्षो अयम् अकृत अस्त्रः च राघवः ॥ ॥३-३८-६॥
Pratyuvāca mahābhāgam viśvāmitram mahāmunim । Ūna dvādaśa varṣo ayam akṛta astraḥ ca rāghavaḥ ॥ ॥3-38-6॥
Translation
He replied to the illustrious great sage Vishvamitra: "This scion of Raghu (Rama) is less than twelve years old and is not yet trained in weapons."

(दशरथ ने) महाभाग महामुनि विश्वामित्र को उत्तर दिया: "यह रघुनंदन (राम) अभी बारह वर्ष से भी कम आयु का है और इसने अभी अस्त्र-विद्या का पूरा अभ्यास भी नहीं किया है।"
English Commentary
Dasharatha’s plea highlights Rama's tender age—Una dvadasha varsho (less than twelve years old). This detail is crucial for Maricha's argument. He emphasizes that his defeater was not a seasoned warrior but a mere child, theoretically untrained (Akrita-astrah). If an untrained pre-teen could neutralize the mighty Maricha, the implication for Ravana is clear: fighting the adult, fully trained Rama is suicidal. This verse captures the protective instinct of a father who sees his son as a fragile child, unaware of the divinity within him.
