Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रामात् न अन्यत् बलम् लोके पर्याप्तम् तस्य रक्षसः ।
देवतानाम् अपि भवान् समरेषु अभिपालकः ॥ ॥३-३८-९॥
Rāmāt na anyat balam loke paryāptam tasya rakṣasaḥ । Devatānām api bhavān samareṣu abhipālakaḥ ॥ ॥3-38-9॥
Translation
"No other power in the world except Rama is sufficient for that Rakshasa. (Although) you are a protector even of the gods in their battles..."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(विश्वामित्र ने कहा): "उस राक्षस के (नाश के) लिए संसार में राम के सिवाय कोई और बल पर्याप्त नहीं है। (यद्यपि) आप देवताओं के भी युद्धों में रक्षक रहे हैं..."
English Commentary
Vishvamitra dismisses Dasharatha’s offer with polite firmness. He acknowledges Dasharatha’s legendary status as an ally of the gods (Devatanam api... abhipalakah), yet asserts that for this specific threat, only Rama suffices. The phrase Ramat na anyat balam (no power other than Rama) is categorical. Maricha uses this to point out to Ravana that Rama represents a unique category of power that supersedes even the veteran prowess of kings who have fought alongside gods.

विश्वामित्र दशरथ के पराक्रम का सम्मान करते हैं—यह स्वीकार करते हुए कि दशरथ ने 'देवतानाम् अपि' (देवताओं की भी) सहायता की है। लेकिन साथ ही वे एक कठोर सत्य भी बोलते हैं: मारीच जैसे राक्षस के लिए केवल राम ही 'पर्याप्त' (सक्षम) हैं। यह एक बहुत बड़ी बात है कि अनुभवी राजा दशरथ अपर्याप्त हैं और बालक राम पर्याप्त। मारीच रावण को समझा रहा है कि राम की शक्ति 'बल' की सामान्य परिभाषा से परे है। वह कोई भौतिक बल नहीं, बल्कि एक आत्मिक और दैवीय शक्ति है।
