अभ्यधावम् सुसंक्रुद्धः तीक्ष्ण शृंगो मृग आकृतिः ।
जिघांसुः अकृतप्रज्ञः तम् प्रहारम् अनुस्मरन् ।
॥३-३९-१०॥
Abhyadhāvam susaṃkruddhaḥ tīkṣṇa śṛṅgo mṛga ākṛtiḥ । Jighāṃsuḥ akṛtaprajṇaḥ tam prahāram anusmaran ॥ ॥3-39-10॥
Translation
Extremely enraged, taking the form of a deer with sharp horns, I charged at him wishing to kill him. I was witless (foolish) and did not remember the blow I had received earlier.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं अत्यंत क्रोधित होकर, तीखे सींगों वाले मृग का रूप धरकर, उन्हें मारने की इच्छा से (जिघांसु) उन पर दौड़ा। मैं बुद्धिहीन (अकृतप्रज्ञ) हो गया था और मुझे (पिछले) प्रहार का स्मरण नहीं रहा।
English Commentary
Maricha chastises his past self with the term akrtaprajnah (witless or lacking wisdom). He admits that in his blind rage (susankruddhah) and desire to kill (jighamsuh), he ignored the lessons of history. He charged at the very person who had effortlessly defeated him before. This verse highlights the blinding nature of aggression. Maricha uses his own foolishness as a case study for Ravana, illustrating that attacking Rama is not an act of bravery, but an act of stupidity born from a lack of foresight and memory.

मारीच स्वयं को 'अकृतप्रज्ञः' (जिसकी बुद्धि विकसित न हो या मूर्ख) कहता है। यह पश्चाताप की भाषा है। वह स्वीकार करता है कि क्रोध में उसे पिछले युद्ध का वह 'प्रहार' याद नहीं रहा जिसने उसे मीलों दूर फेंक दिया था। 'जिघांसुः' (मारने की इच्छा रखने वाला) शब्द उसकी हिंसक वृत्ति को दर्शाता है। वह केवल डराने नहीं, बल्कि राम का वध करने गया था। यह श्लोक बताता है कि क्रोध और प्रतिशोध कैसे अनुभव और ज्ञान पर पर्दा डाल देते हैं, जिससे व्यक्ति अपनी मृत्यु की ओर स्वयं दौड़ पड़ता है।
