इदम् वचो बन्धु हित अर्थिना मया यथा उच्यमानम् यदि न अभिपत्स्यसे ।
स बान्धवः त्यक्ष्यसि जीवितम् रणे हतो अद्य रामेण शरैः जिह्मगैः ॥३-३९-२५॥
idam vaco bandhu hita arthinā mayā yathā ucyamānam yadi na abhipatsyase |
sa bāndhavaḥ tyakṣyasi jīvitam raṇe hato adya rāmeṇa śaraiḥ jihmagaiḥ ॥3-39-25॥
Translation
If you do not accept these words spoken by me, your kinsman wishing for your welfare, then slain today in battle by Rama's swift-going arrows, you shall abandon your life along with your kinsmen.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं तुम्हारा बंधु हूँ और तुम्हारा हित चाहता हूँ। मेरे द्वारा कहे गए इन वचनों को यदि तुम स्वीकार नहीं करोगे, तो आज ही युद्ध में राम के तीखे बाणों से मारे जाकर तुम अपने बांधवों सहित जीवन त्याग दोगे।
English Commentary
This is the concluding verse of Sarga 39. Maricha issues his final, dire warning. He identifies himself as a kinsman (Bandhu) and well-wisher to clarify that his opposition stems from care, not malice. He delivers a stark prophecy: ignoring this advice will result in death not in the distant future, but potentially "today" (Adya) in battle. The reference to Rama's arrows as Jihmagaih (going crookedly/swiftly like snakes) emphasizes their lethal, inescapable nature. Maricha has a premonition of the inevitable doom; he tries one last time to make Ravana realize that his obstinacy will lead to the mass destruction of his entire clan along with his own life.

यह ३९वें सर्ग का अंतिम श्लोक है। मारीच यहाँ अपनी अंतिम चेतावनी देता है। वह स्वयं को रावण का 'बंधु' और 'हितैषी' बताता है, यह स्पष्ट करने के लिए कि उसका विरोध द्वेषवश नहीं, बल्कि प्रेमवश है। वह कठोर सत्य (भविष्यवाणी) करता है: यदि उसकी सलाह नहीं मानी गई, तो परिणाम केवल हार नहीं, बल्कि 'अद्य' (आज ही) मृत्यु होगा। 'जिह्मगैः' (टेढ़े चलने वाले/सर्प की तरह जाने वाले) बाणों का उल्लेख राम के अस्त्रों की घातकता को दर्शाता है। मारीच को पूर्वाभास हो गया है कि रावण का अंत निश्चित है, और वह रावण को यह समझाने की पूरी कोशिश कर रहा है कि यह हठ उसके कुल के विनाश का कारण बनेगा।
