तत् श्रुत्वा राघवेण उक्तम् राक्षसः प्रश्रितम् वचः ।
इदम् प्रोवाच काकुत्स्थम् विराधः पुरुषर्षभम् ॥ ॥३-४-१३॥
Tat śrutvā rāghaveṇa uktam rākṣasaḥ praśritam vacaḥ |
idam provāca kākutstham virādhaḥ puruṣarṣabham ॥3-4-13॥
Translation
Hearing what was spoken by Raghava, the demon Viradha spoke these words humbly to Kakutstha (Rama), the bull among men.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राघव द्वारा कही गई बात सुनकर, विराध ने विनम्र होकर पुरुषश्रेष्ठ काकुत्स्थ (राम) से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
A dramatic transformation occurs in the demon's demeanor. Upon hearing Rama's command and feeling his foot, the arrogance vanishes, replaced by humility (prashritam). The brute force of the previous verses gives way to dialogue. Viradha addresses Rama as purusharshabham (bull among men/best of men), indicating a newfound respect. This marks the beginning of the demon's redemption arc, where the physical defeat lifts the veil of ignorance, allowing him to speak with clarity and reverence.

भगवान के चरणों का स्पर्श और मृत्यु (या मोक्ष) की निकटता ने विराध की बुद्धि को शुद्ध कर दिया। जो राक्षस अभी तक गरज रहा था, वह अब 'प्रश्रितम्' (विनम्र) हो गया है। उसने राम की पहचान 'पुरुषर्षभम्' (पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ/सांड समान बलिष्ठ) के रूप में की। यह 'हृदय परिवर्तन' का क्षण है। रामायण में कई बार ऐसा होता है कि राक्षस मृत्यु के समय भगवान को पहचान लेते हैं और स्तुति करते हैं। यहाँ विराध को अपनी पूर्व स्मृति और शाप का स्मरण हो आता है।
