हतोऽहम् पुरुषव्याघ्रः शक्र तुल्य बलेन वै ।
मया तु पूर्वम् त्वम् मोहान् न ज्ञातः पुरुषर्षभः ॥ ॥३-४-१४॥
Hato'ham puruṣavyāghraḥ śakra tulya balena vai |
mayā tu pūrvam tvam mohān na jñātaḥ puruṣarṣabhaḥ ॥3-4-14॥
Translation
"O Tiger among men! I am indeed defeated (undone) by you, whose strength equals Indra's. Before this, out of delusion, I did not recognize you, O Best of men!"
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे पुरुषव्याघ्र! इंद्र के समान बलशाली आपके द्वारा मैं पराजित (हत) हो गया हूँ। पहले 'मोह' (अज्ञान) के कारण मैं आपको पहचान नहीं सका, हे पुरुषश्रेष्ठ!"
English Commentary
Viradha formally concedes defeat, acknowledging Rama's power as equal to Shakra (Indra). The core spiritual insight here is his admission of moha (delusion). He realizes that his inability to recognize the divinity standing before him was due to spiritual blindness. By saying "I am killed/defeated" (hato'ham) while still alive, he accepts his fate. This verse signifies the lifting of the curse's psychological veil—he now sees the reality of who Rama is, transitioning from an antagonist to a devotee/penitent soul.

विराध स्वीकार करता है कि उसकी हार ('हतोऽहम्') हो चुकी है। वह राम की शक्ति की तुलना 'शक्र' (इंद्र) से करता है। सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात जो वह कहता है वह है—'मोहान् न ज्ञातः' (मोह के कारण नहीं पहचाना)। वेदांत और भक्ति मार्ग में 'मोह' ही जीव को ईश्वर से दूर रखता है। भगवान की मार (दंड) अक्सर इस मोह को भंग करने का काम करती है। विराध का यह कथन प्रायश्चित (confession) है कि उसने अज्ञानता वश प्रभु पर आक्रमण किया।
