एष दाशरथी रामः सत्यवान् शीलवान् शुचिः ।
रक्षसा रौद्र रूपेण ह्रियते सह लक्ष्मणः ॥ ॥३-४-२॥
Eṣa dāśarathī rāmaḥ satyavān śīlavān śuciḥ |
rakṣasā raudra rūpeṇa hriyate saha lakṣmaṇaḥ ॥3-4-2॥
Translation
"This son of Dasharatha, Rama—who is truthful, virtuous, and pure—is being carried away along with Lakshmana by this demon of terrifying form."

"ये दशरथ नन्दन राम, जो सत्यवादी, शीलवान और पवित्र हैं, लक्ष्मण सहित इस भयानक रूप वाले राक्षस द्वारा हरे जा रहे हैं।"
English Commentary
In her lament, Sita recites the virtues of her husband: truthful (satyavan), virtuous (shilavan), and pure (shuchih). This highlights the tragic irony—that a man of such moral perfection is being victimized by a creature of pure malevolence (raudra rupena). Sita’s words act as a proclamation of Rama's identity, perhaps hoping to invoke divine justice or witness from the forest deities. It emphasizes that this is not just a physical struggle, but an assault on Dharma itself.

विलाप करते हुए सीता जी श्रीराम के गुणों का स्मरण करती हैं। वे उन्हें 'सत्यवान', 'शीलवान' और 'शुचिः' (पवित्र) कहती हैं। इसका भावार्थ यह है कि ऐसे धर्मात्मा पुरुष को भी राक्षस के हाथों कष्ट क्यों भोगना पड़ रहा है? यह नियति की क्रूरता पर एक प्रश्न है। साथ ही, वह वन के देवताओं या जो भी सुन रहा हो, उन्हें साक्षी मानकर यह कह रही हैं। 'रौद्र रूपेण' (भयानक रूप वाले) राक्षस और 'शुचि' (पवित्र) राम के बीच का विरोधाभास यहाँ अच्छाई और बुराई के संघर्ष को रेखांकित करता है।
