Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तम् प्रेक्ष्य रामः सुभृशम् अवध्यम् अचल उपमम् ।
भयेषु अभय दः श्रीमान् इदम् वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥३-४-९॥
Tam prekṣya rāmaḥ subhṛśam avadhyam acala upamam |
bhayeṣu abhaya daḥ śrīmān idam vacanam abravīt ॥3-4-9॥
Translation
Observing that the mountain-like demon was completely invulnerable to death, the glorious Rama, who grants fearlessness amidst fear, spoke these words.

पर्वत के समान उस राक्षस को पूरी तरह 'अवध्य' (न मरने वाला) देखकर, भय के समय अभय देने वाले श्रीमान राम ने यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
Rama is epitomized here as abhaya dah (the giver of fearlessness). Despite the terrifying scenario of an unkillable enemy, Rama retains his composure. He observes (prekshya) the situation analytically, recognizing the demon as avadhyam (indestructible by standard means). Instead of succumbing to frustration, he pivots to a new strategy. This verse highlights Rama's intellectual mastery over battle; he understands that if a door is locked (immortality), one must find another way (burial) rather than banging on it endlessly.

श्रीराम को यहाँ 'भयेषु अभय दः' (भय में अभय देने वाले) कहा गया है। यह विशेषण अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। इतनी विकट परिस्थिति में, जब शत्रु मर नहीं रहा था, सामान्य व्यक्ति भयभीत हो जाता, किन्तु श्रीराम शांत रहे और समाधान खोजने लगे। उन्होंने स्थिति का विश्लेषण किया ('प्रेक्ष्य') और समझ लिया कि यह राक्षस शस्त्रों से 'अवध्य' है। उनकी 'श्री' (शोभा/गरिमा) इस संकट काल में भी मलिन नहीं हुई। यह एक आदर्श नायक का लक्षण है जो समस्या के मूल को पहचानकर उसका निवारण करता है।
