त्वाम् हि माया मयम् दृष्ट्वा कांचनम् जात विस्मया ।
आनय एनम् इति क्षिप्रम् रामम् वक्ष्यति मैथिली ॥३-४०-१९॥
tvām hi māyā mayam dṛṣṭvā kāñcanam jāta vismayā |
ānaya enam iti kṣipram rāmam vakṣyati maithilī ॥3-40-19॥
Translation
For, seeing you as an illusory golden deer, Maithili (Sita) will be filled with wonder and will quickly tell Rama, "Bring this (deer)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम्हें मायामय सुवर्ण मृग के रूप में देखकर मैथिली (सीता) विस्मित हो जाएँगी और शीघ्र ही राम से कहेंगी—'इसे पकड़ लाइये'।
English Commentary
Ravana demonstrates his understanding of human (and specifically feminine, in his view) psychology. He is confident that Sita, upon seeing the golden deer, will be Jata vismaya (struck with wonder) and insist on possessing it. The phrase Anaya enam ("Bring this") is the trigger Ravana is counting on. He knows that Rama, being a devoted husband, will not refuse Sita's request. This verse highlights the core of Ravana's trap: he exploits Sita's appreciation of beauty and Rama's love for his wife against them. It is a cruel calculation where the virtues of the victims are weaponized by the villain.

रावण यहाँ मानव (और स्त्री) मनोविज्ञान की अपनी समझ का परिचय देता है। उसे विश्वास है कि 'जाति विस्मया' (आश्चर्यचकित होकर) सीता उस स्वर्ण मृग को प्राप्त करने की हठ करेंगी। 'आनय एनम्' (इसे लाओ) — यह वह वाक्य है जिसकी रावण प्रतीक्षा कर रहा है। रावण जानता है कि राम अपनी पत्नी की इच्छा पूरी करने के लिए अवश्य जाएंगे। यह श्लोक रावण की योजना की धुरी है; वह सीता के सौंदर्य बोध और राम के पत्नी-प्रेम का अनुचित लाभ उठा रहा है। विडंबना यह है कि रावण, जो स्वयं कामवासना का शिकार है, दूसरों की भावनाओं का उपयोग अपने स्वार्थ के लिए कर रहा है।
