दृष्टाः च अहम् पुनः तेन शर चाप असि धारिणा ।
मद्वधो उद्यत शस्त्रेण विनष्टम् जीवितम् च मे ॥ ॥३-४२-२॥
Dṛṣṭāḥ ca aham punaḥ tena śara cāpa asi dhāriṇā । Madvadho udyata śastreṇa vinaṣṭam jīvitam ca me ॥ ॥3-42-2॥
Translation
Once I am seen again by him (Rama), who bears arrows, a bow, and a sword, and whose weapon is raised to kill me, my life will be destroyed.
हिंदी अनुवाद
धनुष, बाण और तलवार धारण किए हुए उन (राम) के द्वारा जैसे ही मैं पुनः देखा जाऊंगा, और जैसे ही वे मेरे वध के लिए शस्त्र उठाएंगे, मेरा जीवन नष्ट हो जाएगा।
English Commentary
Maricha visualizes his death with vivid clarity. He recalls Rama's iconography—bearing the bow, arrow, and sword. The trauma of his previous encounter is so deep that he believes the mere sight of Rama raising a weapon (udyata śastreṇa) equals his end. He speaks of his life as already being lost (vinaṣṭam), displaying a fatalistic acceptance. This verse underscores the terrifying reputation of Rama among the Rakshasas. Maricha isn't worried about the battle's outcome; he knows the outcome is instantaneous death the moment he enters Rama's visual field.

मारीच अपनी आसन्न मृत्यु का मानसिक चित्रण कर रहा है। उसे दंडकारण्य की पिछली घटना याद है जहाँ राम ने उसे सुबाहु के साथ देखा था। राम की छवि—'शर चाप असि धारिणा' (बाण, धनुष और तलवार धारण किए हुए)—मारीच के मन में बसी हुई है। वह जानता है कि इस बार वह बच नहीं पाएगा। 'विनष्टम् जीवितम्' (जीवन नष्ट हो गया) का प्रयोग वह भूतकाल/पूर्णता के अर्थ में कर रहा है, मानो वह मान चुका है कि वह मर चुका है। यह भय इतना गहरा है कि उसे राम के शस्त्र उठाने मात्र से ही अपनी मृत्यु दिखाई दे रही है। यह राम के पराक्रम का प्रमाण है कि शत्रु युद्ध से पहले ही मानसिक रूप से हार चुका है।
