न हि रामम् पराक्रम्य जीवन् प्रति निवर्तते ।
वर्तते प्रति रूपो असौ यम दण्ड हतस्य ते ॥ ॥३-४२-३॥
Na hi rāmam parākramya jīvan prati nivartate । Vartate prati rūpo asau yama daṇḍa hatasya te ॥ ॥3-42-3॥
Translation
Indeed, no one returns alive after attacking/encountering Rama. For you, who are already struck by the staff of death (fate), he appears as the very staff of Yama.

राम पर आक्रमण करके (या उनका सामना करके) कोई भी जीवित नहीं लौटता। तुम्हारे लिए (जो कि मृत्यु के दंड से मारे जा चुके हो) वे साक्षात् यमराज के दंड (यमदंड) के समान प्रतीत होते हैं।
English Commentary
Maricha reinforces the invincibility of Rama. He states a factual observation: attacking Rama is a one-way trip; no one returns alive (na jīvan prati nivartate). He frames Rama not just as an enemy warrior, but as a cosmic force—the Yama daṇḍa (Staff of the God of Death). He tells Ravana that he is effectively already dead (hatasya te) due to his foolish decisions, and Rama is merely the instrument of that inevitable fate. This imagery elevates Rama from a human prince to the agent of Divine Justice, coming to claim the life of one who has exhausted his merit.

मारीच रावण को अंतिम चेतावनी देता है। 'न हि... जीवन् प्रति निवर्तते'—यह एक सार्वभौमिक कथन है कि राम से वैर करके कोई नहीं बचता। दूसरे चरण में मारीच कहता है कि रावण तो पहले ही 'हतस्य' (मारा हुआ) है, अर्थात उसके पाप और हठ ने उसे मार दिया है; राम तो केवल 'यम दण्ड' (मृत्यु के देवता का डंडा/सजा) के रूप में उस फैसले को लागू करने वाले माध्यम हैं। राम रावण के लिए यमराज का रूप धरकर आ रहे हैं। मारीच यहाँ स्पष्ट करता है कि यह लड़ाई दो राजाओं के बीच नहीं, बल्कि एक अपराधी (रावण) और उसके दंडनायक (राम/यम) के बीच है।
