विक्रीडन् च पुनर् भूमौ पुनर् एव निषीदति ।
आश्रम द्वारम् आगम्य मृग यूथानि गच्छति ॥ ॥३-४२-२६॥
Vikrīḍan ca punar bhūmau punar eva niṣīdati । Āśrama dvāram āgamya mṛga yūthāni gacchati ॥ ॥3-42-26॥
Translation
Playfully frolicking on the ground, he would sit down again; approaching the very gate of the hermitage, he would then move toward the herds of deer.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह कभी भूमि पर क्रीड़ा करता, कभी बैठ जाता, और कभी आश्रम के द्वार तक आकर फिर मृगों के झुंड में चला जाता।
English Commentary
The deer breaches the perimeter, coming right to the āśrama dvāram (hermitage gate). This proximity is crucial; he makes himself accessible. His actions—playing on the ground, sitting down—are intended to show a lack of aggression and a domesticable quality. By mixing with mṛga yūthāni (herds of deer), he attempts to validate his authenticity. If other deer accept him, he must be real. This social proof is a calculated move to dispel any suspicion that he might be a supernatural entity.

मारीच का दुस्साहस अब चरम पर है—वह 'आश्रम द्वारम् आगम्य' (आश्रम के दरवाजे तक आकर) अपनी उपस्थिति दर्ज कराता है। यह राम को चुनौती देने जैसा है। वह जमीन पर खेलता है ('विक्रीडन्') और बैठता है, जो उसकी निडरता दिखाता है। मृगों के झुंड में जाना ('मृग यूथानि गच्छति') यह दिखाने के लिए है कि वह सामाजिक है और जंगली नहीं। वह आश्रम और जंगल के बीच की दूरी को पाट रहा है, मानो कह रहा हो कि "मैं जंगल का हूँ, लेकिन मुझे तुम्हारे पास आने में संकोच नहीं है।"
