उत्थाय बहवो अनेन मृगयायाम् जनाधिपाः ।
निहताः परम इष्वासाः तस्मात् वध्यः तु अयम् मृगः ॥३-४३-४०॥
utthāya bahavo anena mṛgayāyām janādhipāḥ |
nihatāḥ parama iṣvāsāḥ tasmāt vadhyaḥ tu ayam mṛgaḥ ॥3-43-40॥
Translation
Rising up suddenly during the hunt, he has killed many kings and supreme archers; therefore, this deer (demon) must be killed.
हिंदी अनुवाद
शिकार (मृगया) के समय इस (राक्षस) ने छलपूर्वक प्रकट होकर अनेक राजाओं और श्रेष्ठ धनुर्धरों को मारा है, इसलिए यह मृग (मृग रूपी राक्षस) वध करने योग्य है।
English Commentary
Rama elaborates on why Mareecha is a priority target. The demon uses the guise of a deer as a trap for 'mrugaya' (hunting). When kings and 'parama ishvasah' (supreme archers) approach, he sheds his disguise and kills them. Rama argues that this creature is a serial killer of warriors. Therefore, the verdict is clear: 'tasmat vadhyah tu ayam' (therefore, this one must indeed be killed). This argument converts the hunt into a punitive expedition against a deceptive predator who targets the warrior class, making it a point of honor for Rama to succeed where other kings failed.

श्रीराम मारीच की कार्यप्रणाली (modus operandi) का वर्णन कर रहे हैं। मारीच मृग बनकर राजाओं को लुभाता है और जब वे शिकार के लिए आते हैं, तो वह 'उत्थाय' (अचानक उठकर/प्रकट होकर) उन पर हमला करता है और उन्हें मार डालता है। श्रीराम कहते हैं कि इसने अनेक 'परम इष्वासाः' (महान धनुर्धरों) का अंत किया है। इसलिए, आत्मरक्षा और लोकहित में इसका 'वध्यः' (वध करना) अनिवार्य है। श्रीराम यहाँ लक्ष्मण को यह विश्वास दिलाना चाहते हैं कि वे शत्रु की चाल को समझते हैं और उसे समाप्त करने में सक्षम हैं।
