भवेत् हतो अयम् वातापिः अगस्त्येन इव मा गतः ।
इह त्वम् भव संनद्धो यंत्रितो रक्ष मैथिलीम् ॥३-४३-४६॥
bhavet hato ayam vātāpiḥ agastyena iva mā gataḥ |
iha tvam bhava saṃnaddho yaṃtrito rakṣa maithilīm ॥3-43-46॥
Translation
Just as Vatapi was slain by Agastya, this one, having come to me, shall be slain. You stay here, armored and disciplined, guarding Maithili.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जैसे अगस्त्य के पास जाकर वातापि मारा गया था, वैसे ही मेरे पास आकर यह (मारीच) भी मारा जाएगा। तुम यहाँ कवच धारण करके (सन्नद्ध होकर) और सावधान (यंत्रित) होकर मैथिली (सीता) की रक्षा करो।
English Commentary
Rama issues his final command before departure. He speaks with certainty that the demon is as good as dead upon encountering him. His focus shifts to the home front. He instructs Lakshmana to be 'sannaddho' (armored/prepared for battle) and 'yantrito' (self-restrained/alert). The use of 'Maithili' emphasizes Sita's royal lineage, reminding Lakshmana of the gravity of his charge. Rama establishes a protocol: while he handles the offensive against the demon, Lakshmana must maintain a defensive posture to protect Sita.

अब श्रीराम अंतिम निर्देश दे रहे हैं। वे भविष्य की घटना को लेकर पूर्णतः आश्वस्त हैं कि राक्षस 'हतो' (मारा गया) समझो। उनका मुख्य ध्यान अब सीता की सुरक्षा पर है। वे लक्ष्मण को 'संनद्धो' (तैयार/हथियारबंद) और 'यंत्रितो' (नियंत्रित/सतर्क) रहने का आदेश देते हैं। 'यंत्रितो' शब्द का अर्थ है कि लक्ष्मण को अपने मन और शरीर पर पूर्ण नियंत्रण रखना है और किसी भी भ्रम में नहीं आना है। सीता को 'मैथिली' कहकर वे उनके राजसी महत्व और सुरक्षा की जिम्मेदारी को रेखांकित कर रहे हैं।
