Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अस्याम् आयत्तम् अस्माकम् यत् कृत्यम् रघुनंदन ।
अहम् एनम् वधिष्यामि ग्रहीष्यामि अथवा मृगम् ॥३-४३-४७॥
asyām āyattam asmākam yat kṛtyam raghunandana |
aham enam vadhiṣyāmi grahīṣyāmi athavā mṛgam ॥3-43-47॥
Translation
O Raghunandana (delight of the Raghus)! Whatever task/purpose we have depends on her (Sita). I will either slay this deer or capture it.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे रघुनंदन (लक्ष्मण)! हमारा जो कुछ भी कार्य (उद्देश्य) है, वह इन (सीता) पर ही निर्भर है। मैं या तो इस मृग को मार डालूँगा या इसे जीवित पकड़ लूँगा।
English Commentary
This verse underscores the centrality of Sita to Rama's mission. By stating that "our purpose depends on her" ('asyam ayattam'), Rama implies that Sita is not just his wife but the pivot of their life and Dharma. Protecting her is the prerequisite for all other duties. He addresses Lakshmana as 'Raghunandana' to evoke family pride and duty. Rama outlines his tactical objective: capture the deer if possible, or kill it if necessary. This duality shows he is balancing Sita's wish for a pet with the practical need to eliminate a threat.

यह श्लोक अत्यंत मार्मिक और भविष्यसूचक है। श्रीराम कहते हैं 'अस्याम् आयत्तम्' (इन पर निर्भर है)। वनवास का उद्देश्य, राक्षसों का विनाश और धर्म की स्थापना—यह सब सीता की सुरक्षा से जुड़ा है। यदि सीता सुरक्षित हैं, तभी श्रीराम अपना कार्य कर सकते हैं। श्रीराम लक्ष्मण को दायित्व की गंभीरता समझा रहे हैं। वे मृग के विषय में दो विकल्प रखते हैं: 'वधिष्यामि' (मार दूँगा) या 'ग्रहीष्यामि' (पकड़ लूँगा), जो दर्शाता है कि वे अभी भी इसे जीवित पकड़ने का प्रयास करेंगे, लेकिन आवश्यकता पड़ने पर मारने से भी नहीं चूकेंगे।
