त्वचा प्रधानया हि एष मृगो अद्य न भविष्यति ।
अप्रमत्तेन ते भाव्यम् आश्रमस्थेन सीतया ॥३-४३-४९॥
tvacā pradhānayā hi eṣa mṛgo adya na bhaviṣyati |
apramattena te bhāvyam āśramasthena sītayā ॥3-43-49॥
Translation
Indeed, because its skin is the primary prize, this deer shall not exist today. You must remain in the hermitage with Sita, being vigilant.

इसकी (सुंदर) त्वचा ही प्रधान कारण है जिससे यह मृग आज जीवित नहीं बचेगा। तुम्हें आश्रम में रहते हुए सीता के साथ अत्यंत सावधान (अप्रमत्त) रहना चाहिए।
English Commentary
Rama states a harsh reality: the deer's exquisite skin is the very reason for its impending death. Its beauty is its fatal flaw. Rama seals the creature's fate ('na bhavishyati' - shall not exist). His command to Lakshmana is explicit: stay within the hermitage ('ashramasthena') and remain 'apramatta' (undistracted/vigilant). This highlights the separation of duties—Rama takes the offensive role in the forest, while Lakshmana is assigned the defensive role at the hermitage. The repetition of warnings suggests Rama's underlying anxiety about leaving Sita.

श्रीराम स्पष्ट करते हैं कि मृग का सौंदर्य ही उसके विनाश का कारण है ('त्वचा प्रधानया')। वे निर्णय ले चुके हैं कि मृग का अंत निश्चित है। इसके साथ ही वे लक्ष्मण को 'आश्रमस्थेन' (आश्रम में ही रहने) और 'अप्रमत्तेन' (प्रमाद रहित/सतर्क) रहने का कड़ा निर्देश देते हैं। श्रीराम को शायद अनहोनी का आभास है, इसलिए वे 'अप्रमत्त' शब्द पर जोर दे रहे हैं। यह श्लोक नियति का संकेत देता है—सुंदरता ही बंधन और मृत्यु का कारण बन रही है।
