तथा तु तम् समादिश्य भ्रातरम् रघुनंदनः ।
बबन्ध असिम् महातेजा जांबूनदमयः त्सरुम् ॥३-४४-१॥
tathā tu tam samādiśya bhrātaram raghunandanaḥ |
babandha asim mahātejā jāṃbūnadamayaḥ tsarum ॥3-44-1॥
Translation
Having thus instructed his brother, the great-resplendent Scion of Raghu (Rama) tied on his sword with a golden hilt.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अपने भाई को इस प्रकार निर्देश देकर, महातेजस्वी रघुनंदन (श्रीराम) ने सुवर्णमयी मूठ (त्सरु) वाली तलवार (अपनी कमर में) बाँधी।
English Commentary
Sarga 44 begins with Rama transitioning from a husband fulfilling a wish to a warrior preparing for battle. Although hunting a deer usually requires only a bow, Rama binds his sword ('asim') with a 'jambunadamayah tsarum' (golden hilt/handle). This indicates he is prepared for close combat, possibly anticipating the demon's true form. The epithet 'mahateja' (great resplendence/energy) highlights his warrior radiance. He leaves nothing to chance, ensuring he is fully armed after securing the home front with Lakshmana.

यहाँ से सर्ग ४४ (मारीच वध प्रसंग) आरम्भ होता है। श्रीराम अब 'ग्रहस्थ' से 'योद्धा' के रूप में परिवर्तित हो रहे हैं। यद्यपि वे मृग का पीछा कर रहे हैं, फिर भी उन्होंने 'असिम्' (तलवार) धारण की। 'जांबूनदमयः त्सरुम्' बताता है कि उनकी तलवार की मूठ सोने की थी, जो उनके राजसी चिन्हों को दर्शाती है। 'महातेजा' विशेषण उनके दीप्त स्वरूप को बताता है। वे जानते हैं कि यह साधारण शिकार नहीं है, इसलिए वे पूरी तरह सशस्त्र होकर जा रहे हैं।
