संधाय सुदृढे चापे विकृष्य बलवत् बली ।
तम् एव मृगम् उद्दिश्य श्वसंतम् इव पन्नगम् ॥३-४४-१४॥
Saṃdhāya sudṛḍhe cāpe vikṛṣya balavat balī |
Tam eva mṛgam uddiśya śvasantam iva pannagam ॥3-44-14॥
Translation
Fixing it on his sturdy bow, the mighty one drew it with great strength; aiming at that very deer, he held the arrow which was like a hissing snake.

उस बलवान (श्रीराम) ने उस बाण को मजबूत धनुष पर चढ़ाया और पूरी शक्ति से खींचा। उन्होंने उस बाण को, जो फुफकारते हुए सर्प के समान था, उसी मृग को लक्ष्य करके ताना।
English Commentary
This verse captures the moment of tension before the release. Rama, referred to as balī (the strong one), exerts his strength to draw the bow fully (vikṛṣya balavat). The bow itself is described as sudṛḍhe (very firm/strong), capable of handling the immense energy of the archer. The simile of the arrow as a śvasantam iva pannagam (like a hissing/breathing snake) is particularly striking. It imbues the weapon with a living, lethal quality, suggesting it is eager to strike. The focus is entirely on the target (tam eva mṛgam uddiśya), highlighting Rama's unwavering concentration as he prepares to end the deception.

यहाँ धनुर्विद्या की प्रक्रिया और श्रीराम के बल का वर्णन है। 'सुदृढे चापे' (मजबूत धनुष पर) बाण को रखकर उन्होंने उसे 'बलवत्' (पूरी ताकत से) खींचा। श्रीराम को 'बली' (बलशाली) कहा गया है। बाण की तुलना 'श्वसंतम् इव पन्नगम्' (सांस लेते हुए या फुफकारते हुए सर्प) से की गई है, जो उसकी घातकता और गति को दर्शाती है। जैसे सांप डसने के लिए तैयार होता है, वैसे ही बाण छूटने के लिए व्याक्र है। लक्ष्य स्पष्ट है—'तम् एव मृगम्' (वही मृग)। अब कोई भ्रम नहीं है, केवल लक्ष्य भेदने की एकाग्रता है। यह श्लोक उस तनाव (tension) को चित्रित करता है जो बाण छूटने से ठीक पहले होता है।
