Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
बद्ध असिः धनुः आदाय प्रदुद्राव यतो मृगः ।
तम् स्म पश्यति रूपेण द्योतमानम् इव अग्रतः ॥३-४४-४॥
baddha asiḥ dhanuḥ ādāya pradudrāva yato mṛgaḥ |
tam sma paśyati rūpeṇa dyotamānam iva agrataḥ ॥3-44-4॥
Translation
With sword tied and bow in hand, Rama ran towards where the deer was. He saw it ahead, glowing as if with its own form (radiance).
हिंदी अनुवाद
कमर में तलवार बाँधे और हाथ में धनुष लिए श्रीराम उधर दौड़े जिधर मृग था। उन्होंने उस मृग को अपने रूप (तेज) से प्रकाशित होते हुए अपने आगे देखा।
English Commentary
The chase is on. Rama, fully armed with sword ('baddha asih') and bow, runs ('pradudrava') in the direction of the prey. The deer is described as 'dyotamanam' (shining/glowing), serving as a beacon in the forest shade to keep Rama focused on it. This visual allure keeps Rama engaged in the pursuit. The verse captures the dynamic action of the hunt—the glowing golden deer bounding ahead and the mighty warrior prince sprinting behind, unaware that each step takes him closer to personal tragedy and ultimate destiny.
हिंदी टीका
श्रीराम पूरी गति से मृग का पीछा कर रहे हैं ('प्रदुद्राव')। मृग उनके आगे-आगे दौड़ रहा है। कवि कहते हैं कि मृग 'द्योतमानम् इव' (मानो चमक रहा हो)। वह घने जंगल में भी अपनी स्वर्ण कांति के कारण अलग दिखाई दे रहा था, जो श्रीराम को भ्रमित किए हुए था। यह दौड़ केवल एक शिकार नहीं, बल्कि रामायण की कथा को उसके निर्णायक मोड़ की ओर ले जाने वाली दौड़ है। श्रीराम का धनुष-बाण लेकर दौड़ना उस संकल्प को दिखाता है जो वे किसी कार्य को हाथ में लेने पर दिखाते हैं।
