तत् न सिद्ध्यति सौमित्रे तव अपि भरतस्य वा ।
कथम् इंदीवर श्यामम् रामम् पद्म निभेक्षणम् ॥३-४५-२५॥
Tat na siddhyati saumitre tava api bharatasya vā । Katham indīvara śyāmam rāmam padma nibhekṣaṇam ॥3-45-25॥
Translation
O Saumitri (son of Sumitra), that desire of yours or of Bharata will never be fulfilled. How could I [desire anyone else] after Rama, who is dark like a blue lotus and has eyes resembling lotus petals?

हे सौमित्र (लक्ष्मण)! तुम्हारी या भरत की वह इच्छा कभी पूरी नहीं होगी। नीलकमल के समान श्याम वर्ण वाले और कमल नयन राम को छोड़कर मैं किसी और की कैसे हो सकती हूँ?
English Commentary
In this verse, Sita asserts her absolute fidelity to Rama while doubling down on her suspicion of a conspiracy. She addresses Lakshmana as "Saumitre," declaring that neither his nor Bharata's alleged plots will succeed. Her description of Rama—"Indivara shyamam" (dark as a blue lotus) and "Padma nibhekshanam" (lotus-eyed)—highlights her deep devotion and romantic attachment to him. She rhetorically asks how she could ever look at another after being with Rama. This reaffirms that her harshness stems from her intense fear of losing the husband she adores. However, by framing her loyalty as a rejection of Lakshmana's "advances," she inflicts the final wound that drives him away from his post.

अपने कठोर आरोपों के बाद, सीता अपनी पतिव्रता शक्ति और राम के प्रति अनन्य प्रेम की घोषणा करती हैं। वे लक्ष्मण को 'सौमित्र' कहकर संबोधित करती हैं और कहती हैं कि चाहे उनकी (लक्ष्मण की) या भरत की कोई भी योजना हो, वह कभी सफल नहीं होगी। सीता का कहना है कि उन्होंने राम को अपना सर्वस्व मान लिया है—वे राम जो 'इंदीवर श्यामम्' (नीले कमल जैसे साँवलेसलोने) और 'पद्म निभेक्षणम्' (कमल जैसी आँखों वाले) हैं। उनके बिना सीता के जीवन का कोई अर्थ नहीं है। यद्यपि यह श्लोक सीता की निष्ठा को दर्शाता है, यह लक्ष्मण के चरित्र हनन के संदर्भ में कहा गया है, जो इस प्रसंग को अत्यंत मार्मिक बना देता है।
