वाक्यम् अप्रतिरूपम् तु न चित्रम् स्त्रीषु मैथिलि ।
स्वभावः तु एष नारीणाम् एषु लोकेषु दृश्यते ॥३-४५-२९॥
Vākyam apratirūpam tu na citram strīṣu maithili । Svabhāvaḥ tu eṣa nārīṇām eṣu lokeṣu dṛśyate ॥3-45-29॥
Translation
"O Maithili, it is not surprising for women to speak such improper words. This nature of women is indeed observed in these worlds."

"हे मैथिली! स्त्रियों में ऐसे अनुचित (अप्रतिरूपम्) वचन बोलना कोई आश्चर्य की बात नहीं है। तीनों लोकों में स्त्रियों का यह स्वभाव ही देखा जाता है।"
English Commentary
Lakshmana, reeling from the shock of being accused of lust and treason, resorts to a generalization about female nature ("svabhavah"). He states that such "apratirupam" (improper/unbecoming) speech is not surprising in women. This verse reflects the specific cultural and epic context where characters often generalize traits during moments of extreme stress or betrayal. Lakshmana tries to rationalize Sita's unimaginable accusations by attributing them to a perceived inherent fickleness in women, rather than accepting that Sita personally hates him. It is a defense mechanism to process the trauma of his mother-figure turning against him so violently.

लक्ष्मण यहाँ गहरे आघात में हैं और सामान्यीकरण (generalization) का सहारा लेते हैं। वे सीता के व्यवहार को व्यक्तिगत दोष न मानकर 'स्त्री स्वभाव' कह कर स्वयं को सांत्वना दे रहे हैं। उनका यह कथन तत्कालीन सामाजिक मान्यताओं और एक तपस्वी/योगी के दृष्टिकोण को दर्शाता है जो मानता है कि भावुकता विवेक को नष्ट कर देती है। वे सीता को 'मैथिली' कहकर संबोधित करते हैं, मानो उन्हें याद दिला रहे हों कि वे एक महान कुल (मिथिलेश जनक) की पुत्री हैं, फिर भी ऐसा व्यवहार कर रही हैं। लक्ष्मण का यह कथन उनके टूटे हुए हृदय और विवशता से निकला है, जहाँ वे समझ नहीं पा रहे कि पूजनीय सीता ऐसा कैसे सोच सकती हैं।
