विमुक्त धर्माः चपलाः तीक्ष्णा भेदकराः स्त्रियः ।
न सहे हि ईदृशम् वाक्यम् वैदेही जनक आत्मजे ॥३-४५-३०॥
Vimukta dharmāḥ capalāḥ tīkṣṇā bhedakarāḥ striyaḥ । Na sahe hi īdṛśam vākyam vaidehi janaka ātmaje ॥3-45-30॥
Translation
"Women are [often] devoid of dharma, fickle, sharp-tongued, and creators of division. O Vaidehi, daughter of Janaka, I truly cannot bear such words."

"स्त्रियाँ धर्म से रहित (विमुक्त धर्मा), चंचल, तीक्ष्ण (कठोर) और (मित्रों/परिवार में) भेद उत्पन्न करने वाली होती हैं। हे जनकनंदिनी वैदेही! मैं आपके इस प्रकार के वचनों को सहन नहीं कर पा रहा हूँ।"
English Commentary
Lakshmana lists specific negative traits he currently perceives: "vimukta dharmah" (abandoning duty/righteousness), "chapalah" (fickle/unstable), "tikshna" (sharp/cruel), and "bhedakarah" (causing rifts/divisive). He applies these to Sita's current behavior. By calling her "Janaka atmaje" (Daughter of Janaka), he highlights the contrast between her noble lineage and her current lack of wisdom. His statement "Na sahe" (I cannot bear/tolerate) indicates that his threshold for endurance has been breached. The accusation of betraying his brother for lust is too heavy a burden, and he rejects her words as being driven by a destructive nature rather than truth.

लक्ष्मण अपनी पीड़ा को व्यक्त करते हुए स्त्रियों के नकारात्मक गुणों की गणना करते हैं—धर्म का त्याग करने वाली, चंचल चित्त, तीखे वचन बोलने वाली और फूट डालने वाली। यह लक्ष्मण का आक्रोश है जो सीता के अन्यायपूर्ण शब्दों के कारण फूट पड़ा है। वे सीता को 'जनक आत्मजे' (जनक की पुत्री) कहकर संबोधित करते हैं, यह संकेत देने के लिए कि ज्ञानी जनक की पुत्री होकर भी उन्होंने अज्ञान का परिचय दिया है। 'न सहे' (मैं सहन नहीं कर पा रहा) लक्ष्मण की मानवीय सीमा को दर्शाता है। वे देवता नहीं, एक भ्रातृ-भक्त हैं जिनका हृदय छलनी हो गया है। वे यह मानने को तैयार नहीं कि यह वही सीता हैं जिन्हें वे पूजते थे।
