आक्रन्दमानम् तु वने भ्रातरम् त्रातुम् अर्हसि ।
तम् क्षिप्रम् अभिधाव त्वम् भ्रातरम् शरण एषिणम् ॥ ॥३-४५-३॥
ākrandamānam tu vane bhrātaram trātum arhasi । tam kṣipram abhidhāva tvam bhrātaram śaraṇa eṣiṇam ॥ ॥3-45-3॥
Translation
You ought to save your brother who is crying out in the forest. Run quickly towards that brother who is seeking refuge.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वन में चीत्कार करते हुए अपने भाई की रक्षा तुम्हें करनी चाहिए। जो (तुम्हारी) शरण चाहते हैं, उन भाई की तरफ तुम शीघ्र दौड़ो।
English Commentary
Sita issues a direct imperative to Lakshmana. She appeals to his duty with trātum arhasi (you ought to protect). There is a profound irony in her description of Rama as śaraṇa eṣiṇam (seeking refuge/help). Rama is traditionally the one who grants refuge to the universe, yet the illusion has convinced Sita that he is helpless and calling for his younger brother. She urges him to abhidhāva (run towards) him immediately. This verse highlights the complete reversal of roles in Sita's mind: the protector has become the victim. Her urgency (kṣipram) clashes with Lakshmana’s stillness, creating the friction that fuels the upcoming tragedy.

सीता लक्ष्मण को सीधे आदेश देती हैं। 'त्रातुम् अर्हसि' (तुम्हें रक्षा करनी चाहिए/यह तुम्हारे लिए उचित है)—सीता लक्ष्मण को उनके क्षत्रिय धर्म और भ्रातृ-धर्म की याद दिला रही हैं। विडंबना यह है कि राम, जो 'शरण्य' (सबको शरण देने वाले) हैं, उन्हें सीता यहाँ 'शरण एषिणम्' (शरण चाहने वाला) कह रही हैं। यह माया का प्रभाव है कि जगत के रक्षक को ही रक्षित समझने की भूल हो रही है। सीता 'क्षिप्रम्' (शीघ्र) जाने का आग्रह करती हैं, क्योंकि उन्हें लगता है कि हर पल का विलंब घातक हो सकता है। यहाँ से सीता और लक्ष्मण के बीच का संवाद तनावपूर्ण होने लगता है, क्योंकि लक्ष्मण अपनी जगह से हिल नहीं रहे हैं।
