गोदावरीम् प्रवेक्ष्यामि हीना रामेण लक्ष्मण ।
आबन्धिष्ये अथवा त्यक्ष्ये विषमे देहम् आत्मनः ॥३-४५-३६॥
Godāvarīm pravekṣyāmi hīnā rāmeṇa lakṣmaṇa । Ābandhiṣye athavā tyakṣye viṣame deham ātmanaḥ ॥3-45-36॥
Translation
"O Lakshmana, separated from Rama, I shall enter the Godavari river, or hang myself, or cast off my body from a rugged height."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे लक्ष्मण! राम से रहित होकर मैं गोदावरी नदी में प्रवेश कर जाऊँगी (डूब जाऊँगी), अथवा गले में फंदा लगा लूँगी (आबन्धिष्ये), या किसी ऊँचे स्थान (पहाड़ी) से गिरकर अपना देह त्याग दूँगी।"
English Commentary
Sita graphically lists the methods of suicide she will employ if separated from Rama: drowning in the Godavari, hanging ("abandhisye"), or jumping from a height ("vishame"). This is not mere hyperbole; it is a desperate lever to force Lakshmana's hand. By presenting immediate self-destruction as the alternative to his departure, she leaves him with no moral space to negotiate. She is effectively saying, "Go save him, or watch me die right now." This establishes the absolute necessity of Lakshmana's departure in her mind, overriding any other danger.

सीता अपने आत्महत्या के संकल्प को विस्तार से बताती हैं। वे लक्ष्मण को विश्वास दिलाना चाहती हैं कि यह केवल धमकी नहीं है। वे तीन तरीके बताती हैं: जल समाधि (गोदावरी में), फाँसी (आबन्धिष्ये), या पर्वत से कूदना (विषमे)। यह सब 'रामेण हीना' (राम के बिना) होने की स्थिति में है। सीता का उद्देश्य लक्ष्मण को यह समझाना है कि राम की सुरक्षा ही सीता के जीवन की शर्त है। यदि लक्ष्मण राम को बचाने नहीं जाते, तो सीता अभी प्राण त्याग देंगी। यह हठ लक्ष्मण के लिए अंतिम प्रहार सिद्ध होता है।
