शुभाम् रुचिर दन्त ओष्ठीम् पूर्ण चन्द्र nibh आननाम् ।
आसीनाम् पर्णशालायाम् बाष्प शोक अभिपीडिताम् ॥ ॥३-४६-१२॥
Śubhām rucira danta oṣṭhīm pūrṇa candra nibha ānanām । Āsīnām parṇaśālāyām bāṣpa śoka abhipīḍitām ॥ ॥3-46-12॥
Translation
She was auspicious, possessing beautiful teeth and lips, with a face resembling the full moon. She was seated in the leaf-thatched hut, deeply tormented by tears and sorrow.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह (सीता) सुंदर दाँतों और होठों वाली थीं और उनका मुख पूर्ण चंद्रमा के समान कांतिमान था। वह पर्णकुटी में बैठी थीं और शोक के कारण आँसुओं से व्याकुल (पीडित) थीं।
English Commentary
This verse paints a striking tableau of contrast. Sita is described with classical epithets of beauty—Purna chandra nibha ananam (face like a full moon)—signifying radiance and auspiciousness. However, this radiant figure is situated in a humble leaf hut (parnashala) and is abhipiditam (tormented) by grief and tears. The imagery captures her vulnerability. She is alone, anxious for Rama, and regretting her harsh words to Lakshmana. This vulnerability, combined with her physical perfection, makes her the target of Ravana’s predatory gaze.

यहाँ सीता जी के सौंदर्य और उनकी वर्तमान मानसिक स्थिति का विरोधाभास प्रस्तुत किया गया है। एक ओर उनका नैसर्गिक सौंदर्य है—पूर्ण चन्द्र सा मुख, सुंदर दंत-पंक्ति और होंठ—जो सुख और समृद्धि का प्रतीक हैं। दूसरी ओर, उनकी स्थिति अत्यंत करुण है; वह 'बाष्प शोक अभिपीडिताम्' हैं, अर्थात आंसुओं और दुख से ग्रसित हैं। यह दुख राम के मृग के पीछे जाने और लक्ष्मण के कटु वचन सुनकर चले जाने के कारण है। सौंदर्य और विषाद का यह मिश्रण रावण की कामग्नि को और अधिक भड़काता है, क्योंकि वह उन्हें एक असहाय अवस्था में देख रहा है।
