Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कैकेय्याः प्रिय कामार्थम् तम् रामम् न अभिषेचयत् ।
अभिषेकाय तु पितुः समीपम् रामम् आगतम् ॥३-४७-१३॥
Kaikeyīyāḥ priya kāmārtham tam rāmam na abhiṣecayat । Abhiṣekāya tu pituḥ samīpam rāmam āgatam ॥3-47-13॥
Translation
To fulfill the beloved desire of Kaikeyi, he (Dasaratha) did not anoint Rama, even though Rama had come near his father for the coronation.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कैकेयी की प्रिय कामना (इच्छा) को पूरा करने के लिए, उन्होंने (दशरथ ने) उस राम का राज्याभिषेक नहीं किया, जबकि राम राज्याभिषेक के लिए अपने पिता के समीप आए थे।
English Commentary
This verse captures the moment of dramatic irony and reversal of fortune (Peripeteia). Rama approached his father specifically for the purpose of coronation ("Abhiṣekāya... āgatam"). He came in obedience and readiness to serve the kingdom. The expectation was of joy, celebration, and assumption of duty.

यह श्लोक उस विडंबनापूर्ण स्थिति का वर्णन करता है जब उत्सव, शोक में बदल गया। राम 'अभिषेकाय' (राज्याभिषेक के लिए) तैयार होकर पिता के पास आए थे। पूरी अयोध्या उत्सव मना रही थी, और राम भी पिता की आज्ञा मानकर राज्य ग्रहण करने आए थे। परन्तु, स्थिति एकदम विपरीत थी।
