Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
चकार तत् वचः तस्या मम भर्ता दृढ व्रतः ।
दद्यात् न प्रतिगृह्णीयात् सत्यम् ब्रूयात् न च अनृतम् ॥३-४७-१७॥
Cakāra tat vacaḥ tasyā mama bhartā dṛḍha vrataḥ । Dadyāt na pratigṛhṇīyāt satyam brūyāt na ca anṛtam ॥3-47-17॥
Translation
My husband, firm in his vows, carried out her command. For he acts on the principle: "He should give, not accept (gifts/charity); he should speak the truth, never falsehood."
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरे दृढ़-व्रती पति ने उसके (कैकेयी के) वचनों का पालन किया। (क्योंकि) वे केवल देना जानते हैं, लेना नहीं; वे सत्य ही बोलते हैं, झूठ कभी नहीं।
English Commentary
Sita explains the ethical code that governs Rama's actions. She describes him as "dṛḍha vrataḥ" (one of firm vows/determination). Once he accepted the exile, there was no turning back.
हिंदी टीका
सीता जी यहाँ राम के जीवन-दर्शन (Philosophy of Life) को स्पष्ट करती हैं। राम 'दृढ व्रतः' हैं—जिस बात का संकल्प ले लेते हैं, उसे पूरा करके ही रहते हैं। उन्होंने कैकेयी की आज्ञा का पालन इसलिए किया क्योंकि यह उनके क्षत्रिय धर्म और निजी स्वभाव के अनुरूप था।
