Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विचराम द्विज श्रेष्ठ वनम् गंभीरम् ओजसा ।
समाश्वस मुहूर्तम् तु शक्यम् वस्तुम् इह त्वया ॥३-४७-२२॥
Vicarāma dvija śreṣṭha vanam gambhīram ojasā । Samāśvasa muhūrtam tu śakyam vastum iha tvayā ॥3-47-22॥
Translation
O best of Brahmins, we roam this deep/dense forest by the power of our own strength (Ojas). Please rest here for a moment; it is possible for you to stay here (safely).

हे द्विजश्रेष्ठ! हम अपने ओज (बल/प्रभाव) से इस गंभीर (घने) वन में विचरण करते हैं। आप दो घड़ी (मुहूर्त भर) विश्राम करें, आपके लिए यहाँ ठहरना संभव है।
English Commentary
Displaying impeccable Vedic hospitality, Sita invites the guest to rest. She addresses him as 'Dvija shrestha' (Best of the twice-born), completely unaware of his true identity. The phrase 'vicarāma... ojasā' (we roam by our own power) is significant—it asserts that despite the forest's dangers ('gambhīram vanam'), they survive through their own vitality and valor, not depending on others. She asks him to wait 'muhūrtam' (a short while/48 minutes). This request is laden with dramatic irony. She wants him to stay so her husband can host him properly, believing Rama's presence makes it safe ('śakyam vastum') for a lone Brahmin. Little did she know she was asking her abductor to linger, thereby sealing her own fate. This moment captures the innocence of Sita against the looming darkness of Ravana.

सीता जी अब अतिथि (रावण) को विश्राम का निमंत्रण देती हैं। वे उसे 'द्विज श्रेष्ठ' कहकर सम्मान देती हैं, जो उनकी कुलीनता और संस्कारों का परिचायक है, भले ही सामने वाला कपटी हो। 'गंभीरम् वनम्' (गहरा/भयानक वन) यह बताता है कि वे खतरे के बीच रह रहे हैं, फिर भी वे 'ओजसा' (अपने ओज/शक्ति) के बल पर निर्भय होकर विचरते हैं। 'समाश्वस मुहूर्तम्' (थोड़ी देर विश्राम करें)—यह सीता का विनाशकारी निमंत्रण सिद्ध हुआ। वह चाहती थीं कि अतिथि राम के आने तक रुके ताकि राम उसका उचित सत्कार कर सकें और उन्हें (सीता को) अकेले न रहना पड़े। 'शक्यम् वस्तुम् इह त्वया' का अर्थ है कि "आप यहाँ सुरक्षित रह सकते हैं" (क्योंकि राम आने वाले हैं)। विडंबना यह है कि जिसे वह सुरक्षा का आश्वासन दे रही थीं, वही उनके लिए सबसे बड़ा खतरा था।
