दुहिता जनकस्य अहम् मैथिलस्य महात्मनः ।
सीता नाम्ना अस्मि भद्रम् ते रामस्य महिषी प्रिया ॥ ॥३-४७-३॥
Duhitā janakasya aham maithilasya mahātmanaḥ । Sītā nāmnā asmi bhadram te rāmasya mahiṣī priyā ॥ ॥3-47-3॥
Translation
"I am the daughter of the great-souled Janaka, the King of Mithila. By name, I am Sita—may good betide you! I am the beloved Queen of Rama."

"मैं मिथिला के राजा महात्मा जनक की पुत्री हूँ। मेरा नाम सीता है। (आपका कल्याण हो!) मैं राम की पटरानी (महिषी) और उनकी प्रिया हूँ।"
English Commentary
Sita introduces herself with royal dignity. She claims her lineage first, identifying as the daughter of Mahatmana Janaka (the great-souled Janaka) of Mithila, establishing her aristocratic and spiritual pedigree. She interjects with 'Bhadram te' (Blessings to you/May you be well), a customary Sanskrit politeness that demonstrates her benevolence even to a stranger. She concludes by defining herself in relation to her husband: 'Ramasya mahishi priya' (Rama's beloved Queen). The term Mahishi specifically denotes the consecrated Queen. By invoking Rama's name, she asserts her status as a married woman belonging to a powerful warrior, implicitly setting a boundary for the guest.

सीता जी अपना परिचय पूर्ण गौरव और गरिमा के साथ देती हैं। सबसे पहले वह अपने पिता का नाम लेती हैं—'जनक', जो 'महात्मा' और मिथिला के राजा हैं। यह उनके उच्च कुल को दर्शाता है। इसके बाद वह अपना नाम 'सीता' बताती हैं। बीच में 'भद्रम् ते' (तुम्हारा कल्याण हो) कहना उनकी शिष्टता और साधु-स्वभाव का परिचायक है। वह अपने शत्रु (अनजाने में) को भी आशीर्वाद दे रही हैं। अंत में, वह अपना सबसे महत्वपूर्ण परिचय देती हैं—राम की 'महिषी' (पटरानी) और 'प्रिया' (प्रिय पत्नी)। यहाँ राम का नाम लेकर वह परोक्ष रूप से यह भी बता रही हैं कि उनका रक्षक एक महापराक्रमी योद्धा है, शायद इस आशा में कि यह अजनबी उनकी मर्यादा का उल्लंघन न करे।
