त्वम् पुनः जंबुकः सिंहीम् माम् इह इच्छसि दुर्लभाम् ।
न अहम् शक्या त्वया स्प्रष्टुम् आदित्यस्य प्रभा यथा ॥३-४७-३७॥
Tvam punaḥ jambukaḥ siṃhīm mām iha icchasi durlabhām । Na aham śakyā tvayā spraṣṭum ādityasya prabhā yathā ॥3-47-37॥
Translation
"You, on the other hand, are a jackal, and you desire me, a lioness, who is unattainable for you. Just as the radiance of the sun cannot be touched, I cannot be touched by you."

"तुम तो केवल एक गीदड़ (जंबुक) हो, और मुझ सिंहनी (सिंही) की इच्छा कर रहे हो जो तुम्हारे लिए दुर्लभ है। जैसे सूर्य की प्रभा को छूना असंभव है, वैसे ही मुझे स्पर्श करना तुम्हारे लिए संभव नहीं है।"
English Commentary
Sita delivers the ultimate insult here. She strips Ravana of his self-proclaimed title "Lord of Rakshasas" and reduces him to a Jambuka (jackal/scavenger). By contrasting herself as a Simhī (lioness), she implies a difference in species and status—a scavenger cannot mate with a predator queen. It is biologically and morally revolting. She asserts her intangibility with the metaphor of Ādityasya prabhā (the radiance of the Sun). Just as one cannot physically grasp or taint sunlight, Ravana cannot possess Sita. Her essence is her chastity and devotion, which are beyond his crude physical grasp. This metaphor also implies danger—trying to touch the sun results in burning. It is a declaration of her spiritual immunity against his physical aggression.

यह रामायण के सबसे प्रसिद्ध और उग्र श्लोकों में से एक है। सीता जी अब उपमाओं से हटकर सीधे अपमान पर उतर आती हैं। वे रावण को 'जंबुकः' (सियार/गीदड़) कहती हैं—एक ऐसा जानवर जो शेर का बचा-खुचा खाता है और कायर होता है। स्वयं को वे 'सिंही' (शेरनी) कहती हैं। शेरनी केवल शेर (राम) की होती है, गीदड़ की नहीं। वे अपनी पवित्रता की तुलना 'आदित्यस्य प्रभा' (सूर्य की किरण/तेज) से करती हैं। सूर्य की किरण को कोई हाथ से पकड़कर मैला नहीं कर सकता; वह स्पर्श से परे है। सीता रावण को चेतावनी देती हैं कि भौतिक रूप से निकट होने पर भी, उनका सतीत्व उन्हें रावण की पहुँच से बाहर रखता है। यदि उसने स्पर्श करने का साहस किया, तो वह सूर्य के ताप की भांति जलकर भस्म हो जाएगा।
