क्षुधितस्य च सिंहस्य मृग शत्रोः तरस्विनः ।
आशी विषस्य वदनात् दम्ष्ट्राम् आदातुम् इच्छसि ॥३-४७-३९॥
Kṣudhitasya ca siṃhasya mṛga śatroḥ tarasvinaḥ । Āśī viṣasya vadanāt damṣṭrām ādātum icchasi ॥3-47-39॥
Translation
"(Desiring me is like) wishing to extract the fang from the mouth of a hungry, swift-moving lion who is the enemy of deer, or from the mouth of a venomous snake."

"(राम की पत्नी को हरना वैसा ही है जैसे) किसी भूखे, वेगवान और मृगों के शत्रु (शिकारी) सिंह के मुख से, या किसी जहरीले सांप (आशीविष) के मुख से उसकी दाढ़ (दंत) निकालने की इच्छा करना।"
English Commentary
Sita launches into a series of metaphors describing impossible and suicidal feats to illustrate the danger Ravana is courting. She compares abducting her to extracting a fang (damṣṭrām) from a Kṣudhitasya siṃhasya (hungry lion). Note the adjectives: the lion is not sleeping, but hungry and swift (tarasvinaḥ), making the act instantly fatal. She adds the image of the Āśī viṣasya (venomous snake). Taking Sita is like putting one's hand into a viper's mouth to pull out its fang. Sita positions herself as the trigger that activates Rama's lethal potential. She is not just a woman to be taken; she is the bait in the lion's mouth.

यहाँ से सीता जी असंभव और घातक कार्यों ("Impossible Tasks") की एक श्रृंखला (series of metaphors) शुरू करती हैं। वे कहती हैं कि राम की पत्नी को चुराना मौत के मुंह में हाथ डालने जैसा है। पहला उदाहरण: एक 'क्षुधितस्य सिंहस्य' (भूखा शेर)। शेर जब भूखा हो और शिकार ('मृग शत्रोः') के मूड में हो, तब उसके मुंह से दाढ़ निकालना आत्महत्या है। दूसरा उदाहरण: 'आशी विषस्य' (जहरीला सांप)। सांप के मुंह से विषदंत निकालना। सीता रावण को समझा रही हैं कि राम और लक्ष्मण शेर और सांप की तरह घातक हैं। सीता को छूने का मतलब है इन शक्तियों को ललकारना। यह उपमाएँ रावण के 'पराक्रम' का मजाक उड़ाती हैं, यह कहते हुए कि वह वीरता नहीं, मूर्खता कर रहा है।
