यद् अंतरम् कांचन सीस लोहयोः यद् अंतरम् चन्दन वारि पंकयोः ।
यद् अंतरम् हस्ति बिडालयोः वने तद् अंतरम् दशरथेः तव एव च ॥ ॥३-४७-४६॥
Yad antaraṃ kāñcana sīsa lohayoḥ yad antaraṃ candana vāri paṅkayoḥ । Yad antaraṃ hasti biḍālayoḥ vane tad antaraṃ daśaratheḥ tava eva ca ॥ ॥3-47-46॥
Translation
The difference that exists between gold and lead (or base metal), the difference between sandalwood-water and mud, and the difference between an elephant and a wild cat in the forest—that is the difference between the son of Dasharatha and you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो अंतर सोने और सीसे (या लोहे) में है, जो अंतर चंदन मिश्रित जल और कीचड़ में है, तथा वन में जो अंतर हाथी और बिल्ली में है, वही अंतर दशरथनंदन राम और तुममें है।
English Commentary
Continuing her critique, Sita uses distinct analogies to illustrate the gap in value and purity between Rama and Ravana. Rama is likened to gold—precious, radiant, and incorruptible—while Ravana is compared to lead or iron, base metals that lack luster. She describes Rama as sandalwood water, implying he is cooling, fragrant, and soothing to the world, whereas Ravana is equated to mud (panka), signifying filth and stagnation. The physical comparison between an elephant and a cat (bidala) emphasizes the vast disparity in their strength and majesty. Sita is systematically stripping away Ravana's delusions of grandeur, asserting that no matter how powerful he thinks he is, he remains inferior to Rama in substance, essence, and might.
