द्वौ अयाचत भर्तारम् सत्यसंधम् नृपोत्तमम् ।
न अद्य भोक्ष्ये न च स्वप्स्ये न पास्ये कदाचन ॥ ॥३-४७-८॥
Dvau ayācata bhartāram satyasaṃdham nṛpottamam । Na adya bhokṣye na ca svapsye na pāsye kadācana ॥ ॥3-47-8॥
Translation
"She demanded two boons from her husband, the best of kings who was true to his vows, saying: 'I shall not eat today, nor shall I sleep, nor shall I ever drink water (if my requests are not met).'"
हिंदी अनुवाद
"उसने अपने सत्यप्रतिज्ञ और नृपश्रेष्ठ पति से दो वर मांगे और कहा - '(यदि ये पूरे न हुए तो) आज मैं न भोजन करूँगी, न सोऊँगी और न ही कभी जल ग्रहण करूँगी (अर्थात प्राण त्याग दूँगी)'।"
English Commentary
Sita highlights the clash between Dasharatha's virtue and Kaikeyi's stubbornness. Dasharatha is described as 'Satyasandham' (bound to truth) and 'Nripottamam' (best of kings), confirming he was a victim of his own righteousness, not a villain. The verse quotes Kaikeyi's ultimatum directly. By threatening to starve and dehydrate herself to death ('na pasye kadachana' - will never drink), she forced the King's hand. Sita recounts this to establish that their exile is based on moral integrity and filial obedience, clearing Rama of any political wrongdoing or incompetence.
