Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एष मे जीवितस्य अन्तो रामो यदि अभिषिच्यते ।
इति ब्रुवाणाम् कैकेयीम् श्वशुरो मे स पार्थिवः ॥३-४७-९॥
Eṣa me jīvitasya anto rāmo yadi abhiṣicyate । Iti bruvāṇām kaikeyīm śvaśuro me sa pārthivaḥ ॥3-47-9॥
Translation
"If Rama is anointed as King, it will be the end of my life." While Kaikeyi was speaking thus, my father-in-law, that renowned King, [begged her in many ways but could not dissuade her].
हिंदी अनुवाद
"यदि राम का राज्याभिषेक हुआ तो यह मेरे जीवन का अंत होगा (मैं प्राण त्याग दूँगी)।" ऐसा कहती हुई कैकेयी को मेरे श्वसुर उस राजा (दशरथ) ने मनाने का प्रयास किया (परन्तु वे असफल रहे)।
English Commentary
This verse captures the climax of the domestic crisis in Ayodhya that led to the exile. Sita acts as the narrator here, explaining the past events to the disguised Ravana. The phrase "Eṣa me jīvitasya anto" (This is the end of my life) reveals the extreme ultimatum Kaikeyi presented to King Dasaratha. It was not merely a request for a boon; it was a threat of suicide. Kaikeyi weaponized her life against the King's love for his son, placing Dasaratha in an impossible moral and emotional dilemma.

यह श्लोक उस भीषण क्षण को दर्शाता है जब माता कैकेयी ने राजा दशरथ के समक्ष अपनी अंतिम जिद रखी थी। यहाँ सीता जी, रावण (जो संन्यासी वेश में है) को अपने वनवास का कारण बता रही हैं। 'एष मे जीवितस्य अन्तो' (यह मेरे जीवन का अंत है) वाक्यांश कैकेयी की निष्ठुरता और हठ की पराकाष्ठा को दर्शाता है। उन्होंने राजा दशरथ के सबसे कोमल स्थान पर प्रहार किया था। दशरथ जी सत्यवादी थे और कैकेयी को दिए गए वचनों से बंधे थे, किन्तु राम के प्रति उनका प्रेम अपार था।
