मम पारे समुद्रस्य लंका नाम पुरी शुभा ।
संपूर्णा राक्षसैः घोरैः यथा इन्द्रस्य अमरावती ॥ ॥३-४८-१०॥
mama pāre samudrasya laṅkā nāma purī śubhā । saṃpūrṇā rākṣasaiḥ ghoraiḥ yathā indrasya amarāvatī ॥ ॥3-48-10॥
Translation
On the other side of the ocean lies my beautiful city named Lanka. It is filled with fierce Rakshasas, just as Indra's Amaravati is filled with gods.

समुद्र के उस पार मेरी 'लंका' नाम की सुंदर और भव्य नगरी है। वह भयानक राक्षसों से उसी प्रकार भरी हुई है, जैसे इंद्र की अमरावती देवताओं से भरी रहती है।
English Commentary
Shifting from threats to temptation, Ravana begins describing his capital, Lanka. He positions it as a 'Heaven on Earth,' comparing it directly to Indra’s city, Amaravati. The mention of it being filled with 'fierce Rakshasas' serves a dual purpose: it warns enemies of the danger, but for Sita, it is presented as a protective force that secures the city's grandeur. By highlighting that it is across the ocean, he implies it is a sanctuary unreachable by ordinary men (like Rama), attempting to convince Sita of both the luxury and the safety she would enjoy there.

अब रावण अपनी शक्ति के प्रदर्शन से हटकर अपने वैभव के प्रदर्शन पर आता है। वह लंका की तुलना इंद्र की राजधानी अमरावती से करता है। यहाँ विरोधाभास द्रष्टव्य है—वह नगरी 'शुभा' (सुंदर) है, किन्तु 'घोरैः राक्षसैः' (भयानक राक्षसों) से भरी है। रावण के लिए शक्ति और सौंदर्य का यह मिश्रण ही गर्व का विषय है। वह सीता को एक सुरक्षित और वैभवशाली साम्राज्य का प्रलोभन दे रहा है, जो समुद्र जैसी अभेद्य बाधा के पीछे सुरक्षित है। अमरावती से तुलना करके वह लंका को स्वर्ग के समकक्ष बता रहा है।
