सर्व राक्षस भर्तारम् कामय - कामात् - स्वयम् आगतम् ।
न मन्मथ शर आविष्टम् प्रति आख्यातुम् त्वम् अर्हसि ॥ ॥३-४८-१७॥
sarva rākṣasa bhartāram kāmaya - kāmāt - svayam āgatam । na manmatha śara āviṣṭam prati ākhyātum tvam arhasi ॥ ॥3-48-17॥
Translation
I, the lord of all Rakshasas, have come to you personally, driven by desire. It is not proper for you to reject me, who is struck by the arrows of the God of Love.

मैं समस्त राक्षसों का स्वामी स्वयं कामवश होकर तुम्हारे पास आया हूँ। कामदेव के बाणों से बिंधे हुए मुझे ठुकराना तुम्हारे लिए उचित नहीं है।
English Commentary
Ravana reveals his vulnerability while maintaining his arrogance. He emphasizes that he, the Supreme Lord of Rakshasas, has come personally (svayam agatam), implying this is a rare honor for Sita. He admits to being struck by Manmatha (Cupid), but frames his lust as a reason why Sita must accept him. The logic is twisted: 'I desire you, therefore you should not reject me.' He places the burden of his emotional state on her, demanding reciprocation simply because he wants it, blending solicitation with the authority of a king.

अहंकार और याचना का अजीब मिश्रण यहाँ दिखता है। रावण अपनी पदवी ('सर्व राक्षस भर्तारम्') याद दिलाता है, लेकिन साथ ही स्वीकार करता है कि वह कामदेव के वश में है ('मन्मथ शर आविष्टम्')। वह कहता है कि उसका 'स्वयं' चलकर आना सीता के लिए एक सौभाग्य है। रावण का तर्क है कि यदि कोई शक्तिशाली व्यक्ति प्रेम-याचना करे, तो उसे ठुकराना अनुचित है। यहाँ वह अपनी कामुकता को प्रेम का नाम देकर उसे एक अधिकार के रूप में प्रस्तुत कर रहा है। वह अपनी दुर्बलता (काम-विवशता) को भी सीता पर दबाव बनाने के लिए उपयोग कर रहा है।
