यत्र तिष्ठामि अहम् तत्र मारुतो वाति शन्कितः ।
तीव्र अंशुः शिशिर अंशुः च भयात् संपद्यते रविः ॥ ॥३-४८-८॥
yatra tiṣṭhāmi aham tatra māruto vāti śankitaḥ । tīvra aṃśuḥ śiśira aṃśuḥ ca bhayāt saṃpadyate raviḥ ॥ ॥3-48-8॥
Translation
Wherever I stand, the wind blows strictly with caution (fearfully). Out of fear of me, the hot-rayed sun becomes cool like the moon.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जहाँ मैं खड़ा रहता हूँ, वहाँ वायु भी डरते-डरते बहती है। मेरे भय से तीव्र किरणों वाला सूर्य भी (चन्द्रमा की भाँति) शीतल किरणों वाला हो जाता है।
English Commentary
Ravana continues to delineate his dominance, extending it from the gods to the forces of nature. He claims that the Wind God (Vayu) and the Sun God (Surya) alter their fundamental behaviors in his presence out of sheer fear. The sun losing its heat to become cool (shishira) signifies Ravana’s oppressive aura, suggesting that his power overshadows the life-giving energy of the sun. This imagery serves to portray him as a master of the universe, implying that aligning with him brings command over nature itself, whereas opposing him is fighting against a force that even the elements bow to.

रावण यहाँ प्रकृति पर अपने नियंत्रण का बखान कर रहा है। वह दावा करता है कि पंचमहाभूत भी उसके शासन के अधीन हैं। वायु का 'शंकित' होकर बहना और सूर्य का अपनी उष्णता त्यागकर 'शिशिर' (शीतल) हो जाना, यह दर्शाता है कि रावण का तेज (असुर-शक्ति) इतना प्रबल है कि प्राकृतिक नियम भी उसके सामने बदल जाते हैं। यह वर्णन अतिशयोक्तिपूर्ण है, जो रावण के निरंकुश शासन को दर्शाता है। वह सीता को यह समझाना चाहता है कि जब स्वयं प्रकृति उसके प्रतिकूल जाने का साहस नहीं करती, तो वह उसके प्रस्ताव को अस्वीकार करने का साहस कैसे कर सकती है।
