त्रिषु लोकेषु विख्यातम् यदि भर्तारम् इच्छसि ।
माम् आश्रय वरारोहे तव अहम् सदृशः पतिः ॥ ॥३-४९-११॥
triṣu lokeṣu vikhyātam yadi bhartāram icchasi । mām āśraya varārohe tava aham sadṛśaḥ patiḥ ॥ ॥3-49-11॥
Translation
(Ravana said) O lady of beautiful hips! If you desire a husband renowned throughout the three worlds, then take shelter in me. I am a husband worthy of you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(रावण बोला) हे सुंदरी! यदि तुम तीनों लोकों में विख्यात पति चाहती हो, तो मेरा आश्रय लो। मैं तुम्हारे योग्य (सदृश) पति हूँ।
English Commentary
Ravana attempts to woo Sita by appealing to a desire for fame and power—traits he values but she does not. He boasts of being famous in the 'three worlds,' equating notoriety with merit. His claim 'I am a husband worthy of you' (sadṛśaḥ patiḥ) reveals his delusion. He believes that because he is a mighty king and she is a beautiful princess, they are a match. He completely ignores the moral and spiritual misalignment. He uses the epithet varārohe (one with beautiful hips), focusing on her physical attributes rather than her character.

रावण का अहंकार यहाँ चरम पर है। वह सीता को प्रलोभन दे रहा है कि राम तो केवल एक वनवासी हैं, जबकि वह 'त्रिषु लोकेषु विख्यातम्' (तीनों लोकों में प्रसिद्ध) है। वह अपनी कुख्याति (infamy) को ख्याति (fame) समझता है। वह कहता है 'तव अहम् सदृशः पतिः' (मैं तुम्हारे योग्य हूँ), जो उसकी अज्ञानता को दर्शाता है। वह केवल शारीरिक सौंदर्य और ऐश्वर्य की तुलना कर रहा है, जबकि सीता गुणों और धर्म में राम के समान हैं। रावण 'वरारोहे' संबोधन का प्रयोग कर उसके शारीरिक सौंदर्य की प्रशंसा कर उसे रिझाने का प्रयास कर रहा है।
