वामेन सीताम् पद्माक्षीम् मूर्धजेषु करेण सः ।
ऊर्वोः तु दक्षिणेन एव परिजग्राह पाणिना ॥ ॥३-४९-१७॥
vāmena sītām padmākṣīm mūrdhajeṣu kareṇa saḥ । ūrvoḥ tu dakṣiṇena eva parijagrāha pāṇinā ॥ ॥3-49-17॥
Translation
With his left hand, he grasped the lotus-eyed Sita by her hair, and with his right hand, he supported/held her by her thighs.

उसने अपने बाएँ हाथ से कमल-नैनी सीता के बाल पकड़े और अपने दाहिने हाथ से उनकी जाँघों को पकड़ लिया।
English Commentary
The specific details of the abduction are horrifying in their violation of dignity. Grasping a woman by her hair (mūrdhajeṣu) is an act of dominance and supreme disrespect in ancient culture, akin to treating her as a slave or animal. Holding her thighs to lift her indicates forcible physical seizure against her will. The epithet padmākṣīm (lotus-eyed) reminds the reader of her divine origin (Lakshmi) and delicate nature, contrasting sharply with the brutal mechanics of the kidnapping. This physical violation is the ultimate adharma.

यह श्लोक सीता के अपमान की पराकाष्ठा है। किसी स्त्री के 'मूर्धजेषु' (बालों) को पकड़ना अत्यंत अपमानजनक और अधिकार हनन माना जाता है, विशेषकर एक तपस्विनी और रानी के लिए। 'पद्माक्षीम्' (कमल जैसे नेत्रों वाली) शब्द सीता की असहाय सुंदरता और कोमलता को दर्शाता है, जिसके साथ इतनी बर्बरता की जा रही है। रावण का स्पर्श ही सीता के लिए मृत्यु समान कष्टदायी है। यह कृत्य रावण के विनाश का सीधा निमंत्रण है, क्योंकि सती स्त्री का ऐसा अपमान अक्षम्य है।
