हा लक्ष्मण महाबाहो गुरु चित्त प्रसादक ।
ह्रियमाणाम् न जानीषे रक्षसा काम रूपिणा ॥ ॥३-४९-२४॥
hā lakṣmaṇa mahābāho guru citta prasādaka । hriyamāṇāṃ na jānīṣe rakṣasā kāma rūpiṇā ॥ ॥3-49-24॥
Translation
"Alas! O mighty-armed Lakshmana, you who please the mind of your elder/guru! You do not know that I am being abducted by this Rakshasa who changes form at will."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(सीता चिल्लाईं) "हा! महाबाहु लक्ष्मण! अपने गुरु (बड़े भाई) के मन को प्रसन्न करने वाले! तुम नहीं जानते कि मुझे यह कामरूपी (इच्छानुसार रूप बदलने वाला) राक्षस हर कर ले जा रहा है।"
English Commentary
In a tragic turn of irony, Sita calls out first to Lakshmana—the very person she had just scolded and forced to leave. By addressing him as guru citta prasādaka (one who pleases the mind of his elders/Rama), she implicitly acknowledges his earlier obedience and loyalty, which she had questioned. She realizes her error. She alerts him that a kāma rūpiṇā (shape-shifting) Rakshasa is taking her, revealing the deceit of the golden deer and the ascetic disguise. It is a heartbreaking cry of regret.

यह श्लोक सीता के पश्चाताप को दर्शाता है। कुछ ही समय पहले उन्होंने लक्ष्मण को कठोर वचन कहकर दूर भेजा था, लेकिन संकट में सबसे पहले उन्हें लक्ष्मण की ही याद आती है। वे उन्हें 'गुरु चित्त प्रसादक' (बड़ों को प्रसन्न रखने वाला) कहती हैं, जो यह स्वीकारोक्ति है कि लक्ष्मण का राम की आज्ञा मानकर रुकना सही था। वे लक्ष्मण को 'महाबाहो' कहती हैं, यह जानते हुए कि केवल उनकी भुजाओं में ही उन्हें बचाने की शक्ति थी। यह सीता का प्रायश्चित और सहायता की पुकार दोनों है।
