जीवितम् सुखम् अर्थाम् च धर्म हेतोः परित्यजन् ।
ह्रियमाणाम् अधर्मेण माम् राघव न पश्यसि ॥ ॥३-४९-२५॥
jīvitam sukham arthām ca dharma hetoḥ parityajan । hriyamāṇām adharmeṇa mām rāghava na paśyasi ॥ ॥3-49-25॥
Translation
(O Raghava!) You who sacrificed life, comfort, and wealth for the sake of Dharma! You do not see me being abducted unrighteously.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(हे राघव!) धर्म के लिए जीवन, सुख और धन का त्याग करने वाले! अधर्मपूर्वक हरी जाती हुई मुझ (सीता) को आप देख नहीं रहे हैं।
English Commentary
Sita appeals to Rama by invoking the very cause for which they are suffering: Dharma. She reminds the universe (and Rama) that he sacrificed life, happiness, and wealth (jīvitam sukham arthām ca) to uphold righteousness. Yet, she is being taken adharmeṇa (through unrighteousness). The juxtaposition asks a profound theological question: Why does adharma befall those who sacrifice for dharma? Her cry "You do not see me" underscores the limitation of even the greatest hero when absent from the scene.

सीता यहाँ राम के चरित्र के मूल तत्व—'धर्म'—को संबोधित करती हैं। राम ने धर्म के लिए सब कुछ त्यागा, लेकिन अब उसी धर्म की पत्नी (सीता) का 'अधर्मेण' (अधर्म पूर्वक) अपहरण हो रहा है। सीता का प्रश्न है कि इतना त्याग करने के बाद भी, क्या धर्म उनकी रक्षा नहीं करेगा? 'न पश्यसि' (आप नहीं देख रहे) में एक शिकायत भी है और एक उम्मीद भी कि अगर राम देख लेते, तो यह अधर्म एक क्षण भी नहीं टिकता। यह राम के आदर्शवाद और सीता की वर्तमान यथार्थ स्थिति के बीच का संवाद है।
