यानि कानिचित् अपि अत्र सत्त्वानि निवसन्ति उत ।
सर्वाणि शरणम् यामि मृग पक्षि गणान् अपि ॥ ॥३-४९-३३॥
yāni kānicit api atra sattvāni nivasanti uta । sarvāṇi śaraṇam yāmi mṛga pakṣi gaṇān api ॥ ॥3-49-33॥
Translation
Whosoever the living beings are that dwell here, and all the flocks of birds and herds of animals—I seek refuge in all of them.

यहाँ जो कोई भी प्राणी निवास करते हैं, और जो भी पशु-पक्षियों के समूह हैं, मैं उन सबकी शरण में जाती हूँ (और उनसे प्रार्थना करती हूँ)।
English Commentary
In her helplessness, Sita issues a universal SOS. The phrase yāni kānicit (whosoever/whatever) indicates she is casting her net as wide as possible. She seeks śaraṇam (refuge/protection) not in the sense of physical defense, but in the form of witnessing. By appealing to mṛga pakṣi gaṇān (flocks of birds and beasts), she acknowledges her kinship with all life forms. It highlights the tragedy: a human princess forced to beg animals for help because the human/demon world has failed her.

यह श्लोक सीता की पीड़ा की व्यापकता (universality) को दर्शाता है। अब वे किसी विशिष्ट देवता या नदी का नाम नहीं ले रहीं, बल्कि 'यानि कानिचित्' (जो कोई भी) कह रही हैं। इसमें चींटी से लेकर हाथी तक सब शामिल हैं। 'शरणम् यामि' (शरण में जाती हूँ) एक बहुत ही भावुक निवेदन है। जो जगत जननी हैं, वे आज वन के पशु-पक्षियों की शरण मांग रही हैं। यह दर्शाता है कि रावण के आतंक के सामने मानवता कितनी असहाय हो गई है और अब केवल मूक प्राणी ही एकमात्र सहारा बचे हैं।
