Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रामाय तु यथा तत्त्वम् जटायो हरणम् मम ।
लक्ष्मणाय च तत् सर्वम् आख्यातव्यम् अशेषतः ॥ ॥३-४९-४०॥
rāmayā tu yathā tattvam jaṭāyo haraṇam mama । lakṣmaṇāya ca tat sarvam ākhyātavyam aśeṣataḥ ॥ ॥3-49-40॥
Translation
O Jatayu! You must just narrate to Rama and Lakshmana the entire truth of my abduction exactly as it happened, without omitting anything.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे जटायु! आप तो बस राम और लक्ष्मण को मेरे अपहरण का सारा वृत्तांत, जैसे-जैसे हुआ है (यथा तत्त्वम्), विस्तार से (अशेषतः) बता दीजिएगा।
English Commentary
Sita defines the mission for Jatayu: not combat, but communication. She asks him to report the tattvam (truth/facts) of the abduction to Rama and Lakshmana. The word aśeṣataḥ (without remainder/fully) is crucial—she wants every detail convey, likely including Ravana's identity, direction, and her resistance. She entrusts the pivotal role of the witness to Jatayu, hoping his testimony will launch the rescue mission. This concludes her plea in Sarga 49.

सीता जटायु को उनका मुख्य कार्य सौंपती हैं—सूचना देना (Intelligence/Reporting)। वे कहती हैं 'आख्यातव्यम्' (कह देना)। सीता चाहती हैं कि जटayu जीवित रहें और 'यथा तत्त्वम्' (जैसा वास्तव में हुआ) और 'अशेषतः' (बिना कुछ छोड़े) पूरी बात राम-लक्ष्मण को बताएं। यह श्लोक सिद्ध करता है कि सीता का मुख्य लक्ष्य राम को रावण का नाम और दिशा बताना था। वे जानती थीं कि यदि राम को सच पता चल गया, तो रावण का अंत निश्चित है।
