Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् उक्तवतः तस्य रावणस्य शिखि प्रभे ।
क्रुद्धस्य हरि पर्यन्ते रक्ते नेत्रे बभूवतुः ॥ ॥३-४९-५॥
evam uktavataḥ tasya rāvaṇasya śikhi prabhe । kruddhasya hari paryante rakte netre babhūvatuḥ ॥ ॥3-49-5॥
Translation
As he spoke thus, the eyes of the enraged Ravana became red at the edges, glowing like fire (or a peacock's plume/fire-crested).
हिंदी अनुवाद
ऐसा कहते हुए उस क्रुद्ध रावण की दोनों आँखें अग्नि के समान चमकदार, किनारों पर पिंगल (पीली/भूरी) और एकदम लाल हो गईं।
English Commentary
The focus shifts to the physiological manifestations of Ravana's rage. His eyes, the windows to his intent, turn distinctively demonic—red and yellowish at the edges, burning like fire (shikhi prabhe). This visual description serves to heighten the tension and horror of the scene. It signifies the complete loss of his composure and the surfacing of his predatory instincts. The "fire" metaphor suggests that his anger is ready to consume everything in its path.
हिंदी टीका
इस श्लोक में रावण के भयानक मुख-मंडल का चित्रण है। 'शिखि प्रभे' का अर्थ अग्नि की ज्वाला के समान चमक है। उसकी आँखों का लाल और पिंगल वर्ण (hari paryante) होना अत्यधिक क्रोध और राक्षसी प्रकृति का लक्षण है। वाल्मीकि यहाँ दृश्य बिंब (visual imagery) का उपयोग करते हैं ताकि पाठक उस भयावह परिवर्तन को महसूस कर सके जो रावण के सौम्य भिक्षु रूप से क्रूर राक्षस रूप में हो रहा है। यह सीता के लिए खतरे की घंटी है।
