संरक्त नयनः श्रीमान् तप्त कांचन भूषणः ।
क्रोधेन महता आविष्टो नील जीमूत सन्निभः ॥ ॥३-४९-७॥
saṃrakta nayanaḥ śrīmān tapta kāṃcana bhūṣaṇaḥ । krodhena mahatā āviṣṭo nīla jīmūta sannibhaḥ ॥ ॥3-49-7॥
Translation
His eyes were blood-red, he possessed a terrifying majesty, and he was adorned with ornaments of molten gold. Filled with immense anger, he resembled a dark blue rain cloud.

उनकी आँखें एकदम लाल थीं, वे (राक्षसी) शोभा से युक्त थे और तपाये हुए सोने के आभूषण पहने हुए थे। वे महान क्रोध से भरे हुए थे और उनका रंग नीले (काले) बादलों के समान था।
English Commentary
Valmiki provides a vivid visual contrast here as Ravana sheds his disguise. The imagery shifts from a peaceful ascetic to a figure of terror. The metaphor 'resembling a dark blue cloud' (nīla jīmūta) suggests not just his complexion but the looming storm of misfortune that is about to engulf Sita. His 'blood-red eyes' signify immense rage and lust (rajas and tamas). The mention of gold ornaments against his dark skin emphasizes his wealth and power, but in a menacing way. This verse marks the transition from psychological manipulation to physical intimidation.

यहाँ वाल्मीकि ने रावण के वास्तविक, भयानक रूप का चित्रण किया है। अभी तक जो रावण एक शांत संन्यासी के वेश में था, वह अब अपने असली तामसिक रूप में प्रकट हो गया है। 'संरक्त नयनः' (लाल आँखें) उसके अत्यधिक क्रोध और क्रूरता का प्रतीक हैं। 'नील जीमूत सन्निभः' (काले बादल के समान) की उपमा केवल उसके रंग के लिए नहीं, बल्कि आने वाले विनाशकारी तूफान के लिए भी है। सोने के आभूषण और काला शरीर एक भयानक विरोधाभास (contrast) उत्पन्न करते हैं, जो उसकी आसुरी शक्ति और वैभव को दर्शाता है। यह सीता के लिए भय का क्षण है क्योंकि छल का पर्दा अब हट चुका है।
