दृष्ट्वा शत क्रतुम् तत्र रामो लक्ष्मणम् अब्रवीत् ।
रामोऽथ रथम् उद्दिश्य भ्रातुर् दर्शयत अद्भुतम् ॥ ॥३-५-१२॥
dṛṣṭvā śata kratum tatra rāmo lakṣmaṇam abravīt । rāmo'tha ratham uddiśya bhrātur darśayata adbhutam ॥ ॥3-5-12॥
Translation
Seeing Shatakratu (Indra) there, Rama spoke to Lakshmana. Pointing towards the chariot, Rama showed that wonder to his brother.

वहां शतक्रतु (इन्द्र) को देखकर राम ने लक्ष्मण से कहा। राम ने उस अद्भुत रथ की ओर इशारा करते हुए अपने भाई को उसे दिखाया।
English Commentary
In this verse, Valmiki highlights Rama's acute perception and innate connection to the divine hierarchy. Despite wandering as an ascetic in the forest, Rama immediately recognizes 'Shatakratu' (Indra, the performer of a hundred sacrifices). The use of the word adbhutam (wondrous/miraculous) is significant; it underscores the supernatural nature of the chariot which stands in stark contrast to the rustic forest surroundings. Rama points this out to Lakshmana, demonstrating his role as a mentor and elder brother who wishes to share this rare celestial vision. The verse sets a tone of awe and prepares the reader for the interaction between the terrestrial avatar and the celestial king. It establishes that although Rama is living the life of a human exile, his awareness of the cosmic order remains undiminished, allowing him to identify the signs of Indra's presence instantly.
