इमे च पुरुष व्याघ्र ये तिष्ठन्ति अभितः दिशम् ।
शतम् शतम् कुण्डलिनो युवानः खड्ग पाणयः ॥ ॥३-५-१५॥
ime ca puruṣa vyāghra ye tiṣṭhanti abhitaḥ diśam । śatam śatam kuṇḍalino yuvānaḥ khaḍga pāṇayaḥ ॥ ॥3-5-15॥
Translation
And, O tiger among men, these hundreds of youths standing in all directions around the chariot are wearing earrings and holding swords in their hands.

और हे पुरुषव्याघ्र! ये जो सब दिशाओं में (रथ के चारों ओर) खड़े हैं, ये सैंकड़ों युवा कानों में कुंडल पहने और हाथों में तलवार लिए हुए हैं।
English Commentary
This verse describes the celestial retinue guarding Indra’s chariot. Rama addresses Lakshmana as Purusha Vyaghra (tiger among men), an epithet emphasizing martial prowess, fitting for the context of analyzing an armed force. The description of the attendants—wearing ear-pendants (kundalina) and holding swords—signifies both opulence and military readiness. In the context of ancient Indian iconography, kundalas (earrings) are often markers of divinity or royalty. The presence of hundreds (shatam shatam) of such guards hovering in the sky creates an image of immense power and authority. Rama’s observation is detailed; he notes their accessories, weapons, and formation ('standing on all sides'), indicating that he is assessing the situation with the keen eye of a Kshatriya, recognizing the protocol and grandeur accompanying the King of Devas.
