Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विस्तीर्ण विपुल उरस्काः परिघायत बाहवः ।
शोणांशु वसनाः सर्वे व्याघ्र इव दुरासदाः ॥ ॥३-५-१६॥
vistīrṇa vipula uraskāḥ parighāyata bāhavaḥ । śoṇāṃśu vasanāḥ sarve vyāghra iva durāsadāḥ ॥ ॥3-5-16॥
Translation
They all have broad and expansive chests, and arms resembling iron bludgeons. Clad in crimson garments, they are unassailable like tigers.

इन सभी के वक्षस्थल अत्यंत विशाल और चौड़े हैं, भुजाएं परिघ (लोहे की छड़) के समान हैं। वे लाल रंग के वस्त्र धारण किए हुए हैं और बाघ के समान दुर्धर्ष (जिनका सामना करना कठिन हो) हैं।
English Commentary
Rama continues his assessment of the celestial guards, focusing on their physique and aura. The metaphors used are quintessentially martial: chests that are broad and expansive, and arms like parighas (iron bars used to bolt city gates), symbolizing defensive capability and immense crushing power. They are dressed in shona-amshu (crimson-rayed) garments, suggesting a uniform of divine energy or fire. The comparison vyaghra iva durasadah (unassailable like tigers) reinforces that these are not merely decorative attendants but formidable warriors. This description serves to highlight the magnitude of Indra’s power—if his mere attendants possess such tiger-like ferocity and physical perfection, the power of Indra himself is implied to be unfathomable. It paints a picture of a divine military force that commands respect and fear.
