जितवन्तम् कृतार्थम् हि तदा अहम् अचिराद् इमम् ।
कर्म हि अनेन कर्तव्यम् महत् अन्यैः सुदुष्करम् ॥ ॥३-५-२३॥
jitavantam kṛtārtham hi tadā aham acirād imam । karma hi anena kartavyam mahat anyaiḥ suduṣkaram ॥ ॥3-5-23॥
Translation
I shall see him soon after that, once he is victorious and has accomplished his purpose. For a great deed is to be performed by him, one that is extremely difficult for others to do.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं इनसे शीघ्र ही तब मिलूँगा जब ये विजयी और कृतार्थ (सफल) हो जाएंगे। क्योंकि इन्हें एक ऐसा महान कार्य करना है जो दूसरों के लिए अत्यंत कठिन है।
English Commentary
Indra explains the rationale for his departure. He foresees a future meeting when Rama is jitavantam (victorious) and kritartham (one who has fulfilled his purpose). The "great deed" (karma mahat) referred to is the slaying of Ravana. Indra characterizes this task as anyaih sudushkaram—extremely difficult for others (including gods and demons). This acknowledges Rama’s unique capacity to achieve what the combined might of the heavens could not. By leaving, Indra allows the narrative of the human warrior to unfold naturally. It is a mark of respect for the Avatar's script; Indra refuses to interfere in the arduous path Rama must walk to establish his glory, promising a reunion only after the victory is secured.

इन्द्र यहाँ राम के भविष्य और उनके अवतार के उद्देश्य की पुष्टि कर रहे हैं। 'जितवन्तम्' (विजयी) और 'कृतार्थम्' (उद्देश्य पूर्ण करने वाले) शब्द राम की भावी सफलता की भविष्यवाणी हैं। इन्द्र जानते हैं कि राम का जन्म केवल वनवास के लिए नहीं, बल्कि 'महत् कर्म' (महान कार्य)—अर्थात् रावण वध और धर्म की स्थापना—के लिए हुआ है। 'अन्यैः सुदुष्करम्' स्पष्ट करता है कि यह कार्य देवताओं के लिए भी असंभव था (क्योंकि रावण देवताओं से अवध्य था), इसलिए राम का मानवीय प्रयास अद्वितीय है। इन्द्र का यहाँ से चले जाना राम के प्रति उपेक्षा नहीं, बल्कि उनके पराक्रम पर विश्वास और दैवीय योजना के प्रति सम्मान है। वे जानते हैं कि राम को अभी संघर्ष की अग्नि से गुजरना है।
